Conny Sommer - Medieval Songs (17 tones, C major)

Retail price: €19.96

The Middle Ages, the 700-year-long "Dark Age" between the Roman Empire and the beginning of the modern era, had numerous facets alongside its dark aspects, in which vibrant artistic life flourished. Singing, dancing, and celebrations took place not only at court, but also in cities and the countryside. In monasteries, various forms of vocal polyphony developed, starting with the monophonic Gregorian chant.
Medieval musicians were either court musicians or itinerant journeymen who set up camp wherever their services were welcome. Today, the Middle Ages are experiencing an unprecedented renaissance, which can be admired both at medieval pageants and at concerts by enthusiasts of early music.
Even though the kalimba was unknown in Europe during the Middle Ages, its diatonic tuning and limited tonal range make it a wonderful fit for the musical themes of the Middle Ages, and it also cuts a fine figure in terms of sound.
