Kalimbas are lamellophones that originated in Southern Africa, where they can be found in countless forms and designs. Our Kalimba B11 'Melody' is meticulously handcrafted from solid American cherry wood (black cherry). The surfaces are treated and polished with vegetable oils and waxes. The 11 tines are precisely tuned to the G major scale, allowing a variety of well-known songs to be played. The "Melody" is also perfectly suited for improvisation and intuitive playing.

For technical and acoustic reasons, we have arranged the tines alternately with long and shorter ones. The six shorter tines have been bent so that their ends are on a higher level than those of the long tines, making them easily accessible for the thumbs. When playing notes from low to high, the five long tines are first plucked alternately from the center outwards with both thumbs - the right thumb starting on tine No. 6 - followed by the six short tines, also from the center outwards. The left thumb starts on tine 5.

The Kalimba B11 Electro model has been equipped with a piezo pickup and a 6.35 mm jack socket. This allows direct sound pickup from the instrument, without the need for an additional microphone.
