HOKEMA - Kalimba B11 "Melody"
Retail: 72€
Kalimbas are lamellophones that originated in Southern Africa, where they can be found in countless forms and designs. Our Kalimba B11 'Melody' is meticulously handcrafted from solid American cherry (black cherry). The surfaces are treated and polished with vegetable oils and waxes. The 11 tines are precisely tuned to the G major scale, allowing for a wide variety of well-known songs to be played. The "Melody" is equally suitable for improvisation and intuitive playing.
For playing technique and sound reasons, we have arranged the tines alternately with long and shorter ones. The six shorter tines have been bent so that their ends are on a higher plane than those of the long tines, making them easily accessible by the thumbs. When playing notes from low to high, the five long tines are first plucked alternately with both thumbs from the center outwards – the right thumb starts on tine no. 6 – then the six short tines, also from the center outwards. Here, the left thumb starts on tine 5.
